How much caffeine is in decaf coffee?
All decaf coffee contains 1mg - 5mg of caffeine per 8-oz cup. It is impossible to remove 100% of the caffeine content of coffee beans.
For comparison, green tea contains roughly 35mg of caffeine per 8-oz cup.
What is Swiss Water Process decaf coffee?
The Swiss Water Process method of decaffeinating coffee involves running fresh water through coffee beans mixed with green coffee extract. It caffeine gradually migrates from the coffee beans to the green coffee extract, and is removed by a charcoal filter.
What is CO2 decaf coffee?
The CO2 method of decaffeination involves running coffee through CO2 (carbon dioxide) under pressure. This CO2 binds with caffeine, removing it from the coffee. The caffeine is then removed from the CO2 via a charcoal filter.
CO2 is one of the most abundant, naturally occurring compounds in the world. It's arguably more environmentally friendly than the Swiss Water Process, and has less impact on the quality of the coffee.
Which is healthiest?
None of these decaf methods make a difference on how "healthy" a coffee is. The process of roasting coffee at 400 degrees fahrenheit removes any latent impurities in the coffee beans.
